In today's digital age, technology continues to push the boundaries of what is possible. Generative AI was first introduced in the 1960s in chatbots, but it was not until 2014, with the introduction of generative adversarial networks -- a type of machine learning algorithm -- that generative AI could create authentic images, videos and audio of real people after a user requests for it. The content is generated automatically to answer questions and create images, text or videos created by AI using data from its machine learning model.
OpenAI ChatGPT
There was a lot of excitement surrounding AI in 2022, especially around the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT in November 2022. GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, which finds patterns within data sequences. ChatGPT currently uses the GPT-3.5 language model, which is trained from human-created text on the internet. The paid version, ChatGPT Plus, now uses the upgraded GPT-4 model. To formulate responses to user queries, ChatGPT uses the AI language model to generate content, including written code, product descriptions, blog posts, Email drafts, summaries of transcripts, meetings and podcasts, simple explanations of complex topics, briefs, translations, jokes, memes and social media posts.
Google Bard
Google Bard, on the other hand, is also an AI-powered chatbot that simulates human conversations with natural language processing and machine learning by drawing responses from the internet. Bard utilises the power of Language Models for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) and has garnered attention for its ability to enhance productivity, cognitive processes, and curiosity.
Google has been developing the technology behind Bard since 2015 and aims to solidify its presence in the AI chatbot space while maintaining its dominance in the search engine market. Bard is designed as a complementary experience to Google Search, allowing users to check its responses or explore sources across the web.
The potential of both ChatGPT and Bard's automation capabilities is poised to transform the digital marketing landscape. With the power of AI-driven automation, digital marketers can free themselves from repetitive and monotonous tasks, allowing more time for strategic planning and creativity. But what's the difference between Google Bard and OpenAI ChatGPT? In this article, we will explore the features and capabilities of ChatGPT and Bard, their availability in different languages, and their integration with various Google services and third-party extensions.
Bard's Features and Capabilities:
1. Productivity and Cognitive Enhancement: Bard assists users in achieving their goals, such as reading more books or simplifying complex subjects such as quantum physics. It offers suggestions and guidance to help users improve their productivity and cognitive processes. Bard can also generate ideas for creative content, including blog post outlines, fueling users' imagination and curiosity.
2. Language Support and Accessibility: Bard is available in over 40 languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Chinese, Croatian, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Users from over 200 countries can access Bard, making it a globally accessible tool for conversation and information retrieval.
3. Customizable Responses and Pronunciation Assistance: Users can adjust Bard's responses according to their preferences by choosing from five options - simple, long, short, professional, or casual. Bard supports listening to its responses in over 40 languages, which is particularly helpful for correct pronunciation or enjoying spoken content such as poems or scripts.
4. Image Support: Bard now supports image uploads, allowing users to ask questions or seek information about uploaded images. While currently available in English, image support will expand to include more languages in the future.
5. Shareable Conversations: Users can share their Bard conversations with friends using shareable links, facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing across different languages. 6. Multiple Drafts by default: For every question you ask, Bard will give you three drafts. The three drafts are similar but are written in a different format. If you ask three people to answer the same question, you will likely get three different answers. That's the principle it follows.

Bard's Integration with Google Services and Extensions:
1. Google Integration: Bard can directly integrate with Google's own tools, including Google Maps, Google Flights, and YouTube. This integration enables users to access up-to-date information and utilise various Google services seamlessly.
2. Third-Party Extensions: Bard can tap into a wide range of services from across the web through third-party extensions. Google has partnered with companies like Adobe to expand Bard's capabilities, allowing users to turn creative ideas into high-quality images or access other services like finding houses or integrating with Google Workspace.
3. Google Duet for Sheets: While Bard does not integrate with Google Sheets directly, Google has developed Duet, an AI tool based on the Pathway Language Model 2 (PaLM 2), to cater to spreadsheet-related tasks. Duet can quickly generate spreadsheets and populate them with placeholder data, although it may have limitations and require adjustments for specific tasks.

ChatGPT's Features and Capabilities:
Natural Language Understanding: As a language model, ChatGPT can process and comprehend human language in the form of written text. This means ChatGPT can understand the meaning, context, and syntax of the sentences you provide, allowing it to generate appropriate responses.
Conversational: ChatGPT's primary function is to engage in interactive conversations with users. You can ask questions, have discussions, or seek help on various topics, and it will respond appropriately based on the input it receives.
Knowledge Base: The data encompasses a diverse set of sources from the internet, books, articles, and other written texts until September 2021. ChatGPT does not have access to real-time information or events beyond its last update.
Multilingual Support: While ChatGPT is proficient in English, it can communicate in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Arabic, and Chinese to some extent. Its proficiency may vary depending on the language.
Text Completion: ChatGPT can help complete sentences or generate text based on the input provided by the user. For instance, if you start a sentence, it can attempt to predict and suggest the most likely continuation of that sentence.
Answering Questions: You can ask ChatGPT factual questions on various topics, and it can provide relevant and accurate answers based on the information available in its training data.
Creative Writing: You instruct ChatGPT to generate text in different writing styles, which allows it to create stories, poems, and more. However, the quality of its creative writing can vary.
Code Writing: ChatGPT can assist in writing code in various programming languages. It can generate code snippets or help you with programming-related questions and tasks.
Language Translation: ChatGPT can attempt to translate text from one language to another. However, the translations might not always be perfect or fluent.
Text Summarization: ChatGPT can summarise long text into shorter, more concise versions. This can be helpful for condensing information and getting quick overviews of lengthy articles or documents.
Conversational Context: ChatGPT maintains context during conversations, allowing it to refer back to previous messages in a conversation. This helps it understand and respond appropriately, making the conversation more natural.
Text-Based Games: ChatGPT can participate in text-based games and interactive scenarios. Whether it's a role-playing game, a quiz, or any other text-based game format, it can engage and respond to your actions accordingly.

ChatGPT's Integration with Google Services and Extensions:
ChatGPT for Google is an open-source Chrome extension that works with all the popular search engines - Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc. It integrates responses from ChatGPT online alongside the regular search results so that you can get concise answers to your search queries from ChatGPT too. It's restricted to a single browser tab, so if you want ChatGPT to be accessible while you're online, you must keep that tab open. This extension solves that problem and brings the bot to search engines. The ChatGPT for Google extension displays ChatGPT’s response alongside Google search results. All you need to do to is log in to OpenAI using the extension, and you’re set. The extension works anytime you’re using Google. Since it treats your search query like a prompt, you don’t need to do anything else. Like the main ChatGPT website, the extension can provide responses, write code, answer questions, and more. It's important to note that since ChatGPT’s knowledge is limited to 2021 data, the answers are outdated for anything that happened after that time. However, one of the best ChatGPT Chrome extensions, WebChatGPT, helps overcome this limitation.
